Created using ZBrush, Maya, Arnold, SubstanceP and Photoshop.
Personal Project continuing from my original Dino Concept, to a fully formed model. (not a scientifically accurate dinosaur)
i wanted to test my skills as a digital sculptor and decided to hand sculpt every scale and winkle on this character with a total of roughly 8,800 scales hand sculpted. Although it doesn't have the realism that you would get from Alpha maps and scans from Texture XYZ, it was a great learning curve in patience and learning placement of scales through collecting references and analysing real life images of birds and reptiles. this method also helped later to create texture masks to texture the dinosaur later.
Textured using Substance Painter and corrected further in Photoshop. (If i had Mari and a better computer system i would have textured it fully in Mari instead.)
If i was to do this again i would vary up the scales further and add more depth to them where needed and less depth where its not needed.
Also i would split the ZBrush model into separate parts to get further details and have a higher quality High poly model to bake and texture from.
